Orejon

Dachshund · Male · Senior · 8 years

Who has the cutest sail ears in the world? This sweet and absolutely lovable dachshund mix Orejon has the fitting name, because Orejon means "big ear". Depending on how he holds his head, it seems as if he is about to fly off. Dumbo would have also been a suitable name. Anyway, the little guy is a fine dog character-wise. He likes people and is not shy around them. Just arrived at his foster home, he curiously explores the new environment. He can certainly express his opinion with a strong voice and, typical of a dachshund, he knows what he wants and what he doesn't. We don't know what led him to the animal shelter in the first place. Probably he was exchanged for a younger dog without any disability. Orejon clearly limps and is overall underweight and in poor condition. Now he is being nursed back to health and then will go to the vet soon to find out what's wrong with his legs. It is suspected that he has an old, poorly healed fracture, and an X-ray will surely provide clarity. Therefore, Orejon is looking for a home that takes his disability into account. He shouldn't have to climb stairs and a buggy can help him during walks. Maybe he can also benefit from physiotherapy. Soon there will certainly be more new pictures and videos of Orejon, the ones shown here are mostly still from Spain. Here is Orejon's video

DE·Show original

Dumbo hätte also auch gepasst.

About Orejon

What life with Orejon looks like

Orejon is a large senior dachshund dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Orejon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Orejon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Orejon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Orejon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Orejon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Orejon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Orejon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
