Adopt Oscar

Pit Bull Terrier · Male · Adult · 8 years

Oscar had a wonderful start in life, growing up in a family home. But due to a family breakdown, he and his sister found themselves back in our care, taken on by another family member but later surrendered to Don Animal, but we got them both to safety in private kennels. He’s waiting patiently, but for a dog who once knew the warmth of a family, a kennel can never truly feel like home. Oscar is incredibly affectionate, happy and gentle. He’s happiest when playing with his ball, and loves running around wih his sister Nancy by his side. He may be a little reserved when meeting new people, but there’s not a hint of aggression in him, just a quiet hope for connection. Once he trusts you (it doesn't take long!), his kisses are the sweetest reward. Oscar has shared his whole life with his sister Nancy, and their bond is something truly special. While we’d love nothing more than to see them find a forever home together, we’re open to the idea of them being adopted separately if it means giving Oscar the loving home he so deserves. We’re happy to offer a trial period to help make this transition smooth. Under Spanish law, Oscar is considered a PPP (Potentially Dangerous Breed), so his adopter will need to obtain a license. But don’t worry—AAR will support you every step of the way and cover the associated costs. Oscar is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, free from Mediterranean diseases, and holds a valid passport. He measures 92cm nose to tail, 50cm tall and weighs 28kg. All that’s missing now is someone to offer him the life he once had and more. We are looking for either a Foster or Forever home for Oscar. If you think you could be that person for Oscar (or for both Oscar and Nancy), we’d love to hear from you. He’s ready to love with his whole heart. Are you ready to open yours? Please contact us if you would like more information on Oscar.

About Oscar

What life with Oscar looks like

Oscar is a large adult pit bull terrier dog waiting at Axarquia Animal Rescue.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oscar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oscar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Axarquia Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oscar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oscar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Axarquia Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oscar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oscar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Axarquia Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oscar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
