Oscar

Greyhound · Male · Adult · 5 years

This handsome boy would like adopters who are happy to spend lots of time with him. He is fantastic company and very easy to be around! Being an ex-racer, he will not be able to live with small furies or cats due to his prey drive. He does has some issues with his back legs, but this is well managed through medication. Oscar has been sharing his foster carer’s home with a greyhound and could live with another dog depending on a successful dog mix. His friendly, laid-back nature would make him a great pet for a family with kids or for adult only homes. Add Oscar to your favourites if you would love to spend your days going for nice walks and snuggling up with a super sweet and affectionate greyhound. Oscar is a 5 yr old gorgeous Greyhound! He is currently staying in foster care and we’ve been told he’s “been a dream!” He can initially be a little nervous when in new environments but soon begins to find his paws. Oscar is really friendly when meeting people and adores a good fuss!! He likes to snuggle up with you and will happily take himself off to his bed when he wants a little more space. When out on walks Oscar loves to put his head down and have a good sniff about! He walks really nicely on a lead and is relaxed when travelling in cars.

About Oscar

What life with Oscar looks like

Oscar is a small adult greyhound dog waiting at Dogs Trust Leeds in Leeds.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oscar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oscar?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Leeds handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oscar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oscar if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Leeds will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Oscar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oscar isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Leeds early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oscar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
