Adopt OSCAR

Mixed Breed · Unknown

The treatment was long, but he never stopped fighting. Today, the back part of his body is paralyzed, but thanks to a special cart, he has regained his independence. At first, he was a bit uncertain, but as soon as he realized how many things he could do with his new "wheels," his enthusiasm exploded! OSCAR is a very sweet, intelligent small dog always ready to give love. He lives in a family home that takes care of animals with special needs, a place designed to ensure them a peaceful and dignified life. Here he has everything he needs: a soft, warm bed, indoor spaces to move around even when the weather is bad, and large outdoor areas where he can happily run. Caring for fragile animals like OSCAR requires constant attention: he needs help several times a day for his physiological needs, and when using the cart, he can never be left alone. But the love and care he receives make all the difference: OSCAR is happy today, surrounded by special friends like him and people who care for him. Thanks to the donations from sponsorship, we can provide him with all the support he needs. By sponsoring OSCAR from afar, you too can become part of his world and help him live a life full of love and peace.

About OSCAR

What life with OSCAR looks like

OSCAR is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at ENPA in Rome.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Paralyzed hindquarters, requires mobility cart and assistance with daily needs including bathroom breaks multiple times per day. Cannot be left alone when using mobility cart.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting OSCAR, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about OSCAR?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ENPA handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw OSCAR on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt OSCAR if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ENPA will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is OSCAR already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if OSCAR isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ENPA early rather than rehoming privately; they know OSCAR and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
