Oscar

Lurcher · Male · Young · 1 year

Oscar is somewhere between 1 and 2 years old and still has a bit of a silly puppy streak! He absolutely adores people and is such an affectionate, cuddly boy. Now that he knows what it feels like to be loved, he can’t get enough of it! Oscar will need plenty of human company in the first few weeks in his forever home while he settles in. He shouldn’t be left alone for more than a couple of hours at a time, as he’s still learning that when his people go out, they really will come back! Like most lurchers, Oscar is gentle and great with children. He’s also fantastic with other dogs and is happily living in foster with lots of them right now. He’d love a home with another dog of a similar size who he can play with. He hasn’t met any cats, so to be on the safe side, he’ll need a cat-free home. Thanks to his foster parents, Oscar is now fully house-trained, and travels well in the car too. He’s a fairly standard size for a lurcher, at 22 kilos. This lovely lad has so much love to give, and we’d love nothing more than to see him find a family who’ll show him that he’s safe, loved and home for good

About Oscar

What life with Oscar looks like

Oscar is a large young adult lurcher dog waiting at Clare Animal Welfare in Feakle.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Oscar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oscar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Clare Animal Welfare handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oscar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oscar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Clare Animal Welfare will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Oscar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oscar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Clare Animal Welfare early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oscar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
