Adopt Oscar

Female

Oscar joined our Sanctuary with his friend Yennefer earlier in the year. We are helping out a dear friend and rescuer extraordinaire who has been trying to rehome this sweet boy since she rescued him in 2021, when he survived one of the worst fires that Cyprus has ever seen. His companion Yennefer travelled to the UK recently and we’re hoping that Oscar is not far behind. He really would thrive in a home where he can have a comfy bed to call his own. Oscar was born with a malformed back leg and was likely no use to the hunter who owned him and was sadly discarded. Fortunate for him, he was found by our dear friend and blossomed. Whilst under her care he made friends with all of the other dogs and cats in her home. Despite missing one of his back feet, Oscar has no problem walking or running and you likely wouldn’t even notice he was missing a foot. He walks well on a lead and gets on with other dogs. He could happily join a home with dog savvy children, especially if they have hotdog sausages 😆 It’s time for this boy to find his forever family and live a life of comfort and love!

About Oscar

What life with Oscar looks like

Oscar is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at SPDC Cyprus in Limassol.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇾Adopting from Cyprus

Cypriot rescues focus heavily on cross-border placements (the island has more strays than local adopters). Animals are fully vetted before flying. The adopter pays the transport, while the shelter coordinates vaccinations, chipping, and the passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oscar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oscar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPDC Cyprus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oscar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oscar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPDC Cyprus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oscar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oscar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPDC Cyprus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oscar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
