Oscar Profile Gender: male / neutered Birthdate: 10/2016 (estimated) Size: approx. 45 cm, 15 kg compatibility with others: cannot be tested with cats: can be tested at the shelter Besonderheiten: quiet home, dog-experienced people Oscar would also greatly appreciate a loving foster home! Hello, I am the handsome Oscar! Since I can remember, I have lived in the animal shelter and I don't understand why. As a puppy, I landed in the public shelter "Gladno Polje" – why, how, why, I don't know. But it was really bad there! Fortunately, my brothers and I were allowed to move into the much quieter and safer animal shelter Neverland one day. Even though my puppyhood was really messed up, I have never lost my zest for life. Day in and day out, I patrol here in the shelter, lie peacefully in the sun, and observe the goings-on around me. I am a very cautious guy, but also very curious! When strangers visit us, I sniff them curiously, and they are even allowed to pet me! Okay, I'm not always comfortable with strangers, but the people who take care of us every day are a bit more to my liking. But even if I will never be the dog who finds every person wonderful and wants to be petted by everyone, I am happy when I occasionally get some attention and love. I have also found some friends here from time to time – but in contrast to me, they all move on after a while to their families to finally be happy. Only I stay behind again and again… Slowly, I am starting to wonder: Will this happiness for me always just be a dream? Or are there still somewhere out there, MY people, who love me as I am? Who don't expect anything from me but give me all the time I need to slowly thaw out? Without being angry with me if I don't understand or participate right away. Who give me a warm dog bed and open their hearts to me, showing me piece by piece how great the world and a dog life can be. Who don't want to drag me everywhere but offer me a quiet, safe home and unconditional love! Maybe you are even the one person I have been waiting for my whole life? Then please sign up quickly and ask about Oscar!

About Oscar

What life with Oscar looks like

Oscar is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Stray Dogs Bosnien e.V. in Schwabach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oscar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oscar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stray Dogs Bosnien e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oscar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oscar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stray Dogs Bosnien e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oscar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oscar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stray Dogs Bosnien e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oscar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
