Adopt Oscar

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Name: Oscar3Born: 12/2020Health: vaccinated, microchipped, neutered. Breed: Herdenschutzhund-MischlingLocation: foster home in 63110 RodgauCharacter: Oscar3 has had to endure much suffering in his previous life. Given up after four years due to poor husbandry in Germany, he now lives in a foster home where he can learn and be a dog at the same time. Oscar3 is a balanced, calm Herdenschutzhund mix with a big heart. He thrives in a quiet, loving environment under consistent leadership. At the moment, he is still quite emaciated but is being lovingly fed multiple times a day and is slowly recovering. Inside the house, Oscar3 is quiet, unobtrusive, sleeps a lot, does not cause trouble, and enjoys affection. Even being alone does not pose a problem for the handsome male dog. Outside during walks, he shows many uncertainties and quickly becomes overwhelmed by external stimuli, which is why we are looking for a rural home for him, ideally with a large property and people who know the specifics of a Herdenschutzhund. For Oscar3, we wish experienced, sovereign, and calm individuals who will give him time, patience, and understanding, take him by the hand lovingly yet consistently, and show him how beautiful a dog's life can be. An ideal home would be a quiet household with few people, allowing him to truly settle in and relax. Oscar3 is a sensitive companion who longs for security and finally wants to see a home where he is recognized for who he truly is. Name: Oscar3Geboren:12/2020Gesundheit: Geimpft, gechipt, kastriert.

About Oscar

What life with Oscar looks like

Oscar is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oscar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oscar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oscar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oscar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oscar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oscar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oscar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
