Adopt Oskar H

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Profile: Age: Born around 2019 Gender: male neutered: yes Temperament: reserved but curious Size: approx. 40 cm In shelter since: June 2020 Siblings: Brother Victor & (Mother Peaches – already adopted) German Shepherd friends taken care of – here comes Oskar. Yes, at 40 cm, he is a bit on the small side and is likely a mixed breed, but the German Shepherd in his family lineage is not to be denied by his beautiful fur pattern. To what extent his typical characteristics will show, we cannot judge. But what we can say is that he is a friendly fellow who just lacks the last bit of courage to let us humans pet him. He always keeps a small safety distance, but is nevertheless curious and open. In his family, this hurdle will surely be overcome quite quickly if not so many dogs are competing with each other and the stress of the loud shelter falls off him. Unfortunately, dogs with German Shepherd looks are not very popular and are rarely adopted. Many spend years in the shelter while watching other dogs come and go in the yard without ever getting a chance themselves. These are wonderful dogs, loyal and affectionate, who stick by their family through thick and thin. For Oskar, we can only hope that this fate is spared and that someone with a heart for him will adopt him despite all preconceptions. If you are interested in Oskar, please write us an email or a message on Facebook. Oskar is ready to travel and can travel to Germany with the next transport. Our dogs travel legally with Traces. As Traces, one refers to the database system with which the entire animal transport within the EU is monitored. The dogs travel vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, and dewormed, and have an EU Pass.

Steckbrief Alter: ca. 2019 geboren Geschlecht: männlich Kastriert: ja Charakter: zurückhaltend, aber neugierig Größe: ca. 40 cm Im Shelter seit: Juni 2020 Verwandte: Bruder Victor & (Mutter Peaches – bereits ausgereist) Schäferhundfreunde aufgepasst – hier kommt Oskar.

About Oskar H

What life with Oskar H looks like

Oskar H is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Seelen für Seelchen e.V. in Alfter.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oskar H, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oskar H?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Seelen für Seelchen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oskar H on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oskar H if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Seelen für Seelchen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oskar H already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oskar H isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Seelen für Seelchen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oskar H and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
