Oskar

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

tomcat Oskar came to us as a found cat and has quickly proven to be a real affectionate feline. The handsome longhair mix is an exceptionally large snuggler who adores being close to his people. He would rather be with them all the time, snuggling, being stroked, and keeping his people company. For those seeking an attached and very people-oriented feline friend, Oskar will be a loyal companion. Due to his long fur, Oskar requires regular fur care, which he will gladly enjoy with the right affection. For his new home, we wish for a large apartment with a secured balcony or the possibility of a secured outdoor run. As Oskar is very fixated on his people, he looks forward to a lot of attention and shared time. Unfortunately, Oskar was diagnosed with FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). FIV is a viral disease that affects a cat’s immune system, making them more susceptible to infections. The disease is not transmissible to humans or other animal species. Currently, Oskar is doing very well, and many FIV-positive cats can still lead happy and fulfilling lives with good care. Just their immune system may not be as robust as that of healthy cats. Due to his condition, we are searching for a place in individual housing in a quiet, stress-free environment for Oskar. For Oskar, we offer a permanent foster placement. The veterinary care and necessary treatments at our association veterinarian in Chemnitz/Euba will be covered by the association. Therefore, we are searching for a loving home in the Chemnitz area for Oskar. Those who are willing to give this cuddly dream cat a chance despite his diagnosis will receive a wonderful companion who enriches their life with lots of love and affection every day. Oskar is currently not in the animal shelter but in a temporary foster home. For inquiries, please send us an email:. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Oskar

What life with Oskar looks like

Oskar is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierasyl Chemnitz in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oskar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oskar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierasyl Chemnitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oskar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oskar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierasyl Chemnitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oskar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oskar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierasyl Chemnitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oskar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
