Description Our animal welfare workers report: where do you go when you have no roof over your head, in the middle of a cold winter and the ground is partially frozen, your paws hurt, your stomach growls, and there is a daily shortage of food and water? Oskars mother Mina was not only incredibly strong but also clever, she found a slightly warmer spot that protected her from the harsh winter cold in Romania: a parked, blue car. Although Oskars mother is not a small female dog (see pictures and videos), she skillfully used the wind-sheltered spot on the ground under the parked car and squeezed into the gap on the ground. Perhaps the standing car still gave off a little warmth. Here, she lovingly nurtured and suckled her ten puppies. The little fur-bearers lay snuggled close to Mama’s belly and warmed their small bodies as best they could, and drank the nourishing milk – until they were discovered. The animal welfare workers were notified and came to fetch the brave, selfless mother dog and her puppies. Oskar and his siblings (Anja, Bill, Lenny, Tommy, Betty, Mary, Lotti, Carlos2) were brought to the shelter in Galati together with their mother. But this is not a place where a young dog should grow up, in the concrete yard, behind bars. In the private shelter, Oskar could grow up in safety. Who would like to give this fellow animal and cat-friendly young pup a protected home where he can experience love and security, be cared for, play, and frolic without worry? Update05.04.2026 new videos, new image13.03.2026 a colleague from the association was on site and reports: Oskar showed himself to be a small, cute guard dog. With the familiar animal rescuer, he is very trusting, loves to run around outside, and gets along well with the other dogs. A happy little guy with a lot of energy. 05.02.2026 new pictures and videos. Oskar found a peer on the shelter’s clinic, a girl named Cherry, who was operated on in January 2026 due to a nictitating membrane prolapse at the eye. Due to this medical procedure, no damage should remain on the eye.

About Oskar

What life with Oskar looks like

Oskar is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oskar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oskar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oskar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oskar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oskar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oskar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oskar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
