adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Otis has found his home! His story: Big dogs, big heart – that's Otis! Our handsome puppy Otis traveled to his foster home in early May. Otis is a beautiful 50 cm male dog with a gentle and balanced nature. He meets everything with calmness and friendliness – whether other dogs, cats, chickens, or even horses: Otis remains sovereign and composed. Otis already runs very well on a leash. He has already practiced recall on enclosed grounds, and here too, Otis reacts very reliably, as he builds a close bond with his people. Otis loves long walks through forests and meadows – and even car rides make him very happy, because there's so much to discover on the way! In the garden, Otis shows a little guard dog behavior – he is attentive without being intrusive. A home with a garden would therefore be ideal for him. Otis is very people-oriented, clingy, and cuddly. He seeks the proximity of his primary caregiver and loves to be there – whether during joint activities or during quiet moments at home. The uncomplicated young dog can also be rehomed as a second dog, as he gets along well with both large and small dogs. With his friendly character, calm demeanor, and cuddly heart, Otis will be a wonderful companion – for many beautiful years together. But Otis is only four months old. Soon, Otis will enter puberty. In this phase, these sweet floppy-eared puppies might suddenly forget everything they've learned and go on a wild ride. But with the right training in a positively working dog training class, you can also successfully navigate this phase together. Otis is vaccinated, microchipped, treated for fleas, and dewormed. Of course, he has his EU pet passport with him. Otis can after a positive learning experience be introduced to his loving foster home. Many thanks to Julia. You have given Otis an identity. As of: 24.05.

Lernt Otis gerne in seiner liebevollen Pflegestelle kennen. Vielen Dank Julia. Du hast Otis eine Identität geschenkt. Stand: 24.05.2025

About Otis

What life with Otis looks like

Otis is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Otis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Otis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Otis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Otis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Otis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Otis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Otis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
