Otis

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Otis is a lively, really nice dog who loves people and has learned to sometimes hold back. He needs to be let out when the other dogs in his kennel need some quiet time. He's a family dog waiting to happen. He's not the most subtle with other dogs and only reacts when there's real trouble. September 2021 Otis has become a bit calmer but is still very people-oriented and enjoys attention and petting. Otis is lively and agile, playing and running with the other dogs enthusiastically. He's a young dog who could still learn a lot if given the chance. He's doing much better with the other dogs compared to March, having learned that bullying doesn't go down well and sometimes gets a firm response. We think Otis will become even calmer in a family, where the competition for attention is much smaller. He's a sporty dog who will need mental stimulation! March 2021 July 2020 Otis is a very people-friendly young, strong male, very confident and a bit arrogant towards other dogs. He wants to be number one with every person! He's only been at the shelter for a short time, but he'll surely learn that a young snob like him can't be the boss in a shelter pack. The other dogs will teach him. Then he can definitely become a great, active, and fun-loving companion dog. We don't know anything about his past yet. More information will follow...

About Otis

What life with Otis looks like

Otis is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Initiative Karpatenstreuner e.V. in Romania.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Otis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Otis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Initiative Karpatenstreuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Otis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Otis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Initiative Karpatenstreuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Otis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Otis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Initiative Karpatenstreuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Otis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
