Otto

Alaskan Malamute · Male · Adult · 5 years

09-07-26 Otto is a very handsome boy who originally come to us in November 2024 from a breeder. He was adopted but has sadly been returned to us after his adopters realised he wasn't happy sharing his home with a teenager and did on one occasion lunge towards him. Otto will be looking for a calm and quiet, adult-only home where there are no visiting children and where he can be the only animal in the home. He would be best suited to an adopter who has experience with the breed and has had dogs with similar behaviours. He is such a wonderful boy and truly has so much love to give. He can be aloof when he first meets you, but once he gets to know you his silly and cheeky side emerges. He absolutely loves a fuss and enjoys spending time with his people. He is also very food-orientated, which makes him great fun to train and means he's always keen to learn when there's a tasty reward involved. Otto already walks well on a lead and absolutely loves heading off on walks and adventures and will get so excited when his harness comes out. He is muzzle trained as he can be reactive to other dogs. He is non reactive to most dogs, but if a dog barks at him, he will bark back and if an off lead dog runs over to him he can react and may snap. Due to this he will need an adopter who is happy to continue to support him and manage this when out on walks to ensure he is always kept safe and doesn't get the opportunity to make the wrong decision. As Otto has lived in a home before, he will already be familiar with the sights and sounds of home life. However, as with any dog moving into a new environment, he may need a little reminding of his routine while he settles in. Otto is already proving to be very popular at the rescue and in the right home with adopters who are happy to meet his needs, he will truly thrive and become the most wonderful companion.

About Otto

What life with Otto looks like

Otto is a adult alaskan malamute dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Otto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Otto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Otto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Otto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Otto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Otto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Otto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
