adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Otto has found a home! His story: Rising from the Dead – or how to explain Otto's story? Otto was found on the street and it turned out that he is microchipped. He is even registered – but as deceased. No contact information is listed, and so Otto ended up in the public animal shelter of Bistrita. Here he lives in a cramped pen without much human affection and suffers greatly. Otto is a gentle giant. At around 7-8 years old, he has long passed his puppy phase. Otto is friendly, can be stroked, and gets along well with other dogs. With a shoulder height of about 72 cm, he brings a large size with him. Otto is a herding dog and will bring the appropriate traits with him once he has settled in. One should therefore familiarize themselves with the traits of such a breed and consider whether the dog fits into the personal environment. A large, fenced-in garden would be great for him, where he can lie and observe, and a rural environment. Herding dogs are independent personalities that require the owner to have the ability to be consistent and empathetic and to be able to deal with an intelligent, independent acting dog. They bring many wonderful traits. People who already have experience with herding dogs do not want any other breeds, as they, despite their thick skulls, are very loyal and faithful companions. Even though Otto may have had a previous owner, an appropriate life is foreign to him. He wishes for empathetic people who will go through his new life step by step with him and offer him a lot of security and care. Our Otto is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He brings his EU Companion Animal Certificate and can be adopted after a positive foster home experience! Otto would be very happy with a foster home! Who gives Otto his ticket to happiness? Many thanks Gudrun K.! You have given Otto his name! Many thanks Sylvia K.! You support Otto with a monthly sponsorship! As of: 28.08.

Vielen Dank Gudrun K.! Du hast Otto seinen Namen geschenkt! Vielen Dank Sylvia K.! Du unterstützt Otto mit einer monatlichen Patenschaft! Stand: 28.08.2024

About Otto

What life with Otto looks like

Otto is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Otto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Otto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Otto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Otto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Otto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Otto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Otto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
