Adopt Paco

Belgian Malinois · Male · Adult · 6 years

This big 35 kg dog is starting to see the years pass at the shelter without a serious lead. Crossbred Beauceron, Paco really needs an adopter who understands his story and truly understands him. Paco used to live on the street with his human, who was very dear to him. Life has separated them, and he arrived at the shelter in March 2021 very disturbed, not understanding what had just happened to him. Over time, Paco has become more and more relaxed in his new living conditions, and has become a real fan of ball games and cuddles! Paco is a lovable dog who does not easily trust anyone. He will need to feel safe before showing his true personality. We advise his future family to spend some time with Paco in order to get to know him. He will show you his best sides and above all his loyalty, his greatest quality! Our Paco will need a dynamic home that can meet his mental and physical exercise needs, but also a home without young children, whom he could knock over. Paco does not like cats, and he is looking for adopters ready to work on his relationship with other animals of the same species. Paco seems to get along better with females, but meetings and cohabitation will need to be worked on. Paco suffers from chronic pancreatitis which requires a special diet. About Paco

What life with Paco looks like

Paco is a large adult belgian malinois dog waiting at Le refuge du Penthièvre et du Méné in France.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Le refuge du Penthièvre et du Méné handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Le refuge du Penthièvre et du Méné will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Le refuge du Penthièvre et du Méné early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
