PALMA

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Palma spent nearly a year on the run, impossible to catch. Whenever anyone came near her, she would simply run away. Luckily, a local farmer managed to gain her trust. Palma had befriended his dog and started following him around, which finally gave him the chance to safely catch her and for us to go and pick her up And what a sweetie she is. She absolutely loves attention and affection, and you honestly wouldn’t believe that this is the same girl who spent so long running from people. Sadly, Palma has tested positive for microfilaria and Dirofilaria (heartworm). This means she will need treatment to eliminate the worms and, separately, treatment for the microfilariae. The adult Dirofilaria worms live mainly in the heart and pulmonary blood vessels and produce millions of microfilariae, which circulate through the bloodstream. Her treatment needs to be carefully managed because some dogs can react to the medication, while others can have serious reactions as the worms die and pass through the heart, lungs and blood vessels. In severe cases, these complications can unfortunately be fatal. So for Palma, it means extra vigilance, lots of rest and careful monitoring throughout her treatment. Thankfully, Palma who is around 2 years old, is now safe, and she has a team around her who will make sure she gets everything she needs. It may be a long road, but we are hopeful that with the right treatment, plenty of rest and lots of love, Palma will get through this and go on to enjoy the happy life she deserves.

About PALMA

What life with PALMA looks like

PALMA is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SAT Animal Rescue Torrevieja.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting PALMA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about PALMA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SAT Animal Rescue Torrevieja handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw PALMA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt PALMA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SAT Animal Rescue Torrevieja will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is PALMA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if PALMA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SAT Animal Rescue Torrevieja early rather than rehoming privately; they know PALMA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
