Pancho

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 4 months

Pancho is one and a half years old (as of 12/2021) and wishes for nothing more than a family – a real one, where he is loved and respected, because he already had an owner, but those people did not deserve a dog, and we hope they never get one again! When Pancho was a puppy, he came to people who thought that a dog would be "kind of nice" at least. So they chose a nice, not too big four-legged animal and probably took care of the cute baby for the first few days. Then the torment began for an active dog like Pancho. He became uninteresting, lived alone in the garden and courtyard, no one showed him the world or explained it to him, no one taught him how to make friends, play or just cuddle. And when Pancho started being afraid of his owners because he could not trust anyone, he was delivered to ArcoNatura like an old piece of furniture in the trash. Pancho did not understand the world anymore during the first days. There were many strangers, even more strange dogs, their smells and noises, the small mixed breed was completely overwhelmed. But now he has already made really good friends among his four-legged companions and also shows the animal protectors more trust every day. Pancho was initially still very controlled by his fear in situations he could not properly assess, and if he feared he would lose control, he sometimes reacted with snapping. However, Pancho has now realized that no danger threatens him, he is happy with affection and enjoys closeness of any kind. Pancho has not hurt anyone yet, he warns and his body language is clearly readable, but the inexperienced terrier mix definitely belongs in experienced hands and in a household without small children who cannot understand or assess him. Pancho will certainly be a real dream dog, he already shows how much he would like to fully commit to someone, but his lack of experience with the environment held him back for a long time. Therefore, Pancho is looking for patient, experienced people who want to accompany and support him on his way to becoming a family dog. Our beautiful heartbreaker is intelligent and really eager to learn – he just needs simple guidance, leadership and what he was systematically denied by his previous owners in his previous life: lots and lots of love!

DE·Show original

About Pancho

What life with Pancho looks like

Pancho is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pancho, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pancho?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pancho on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pancho if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pancho already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pancho isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pancho and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
