Adopt Panda

Female · Adult · 5 years

We took Pandu in 2021. At that time, she was about six months old and was tied to a two-meter chain near the house, on dirt, without a shelter. She couldn't walk properly or eat well. She was fed, like most of these dogs, bread soaked in water, and sometimes in milk. When will people finally realize that a dog is not a pig and shouldn't eat slop? In any case, Panda has more than just this disability. She keeps having pain again and again. At first, we thought it was because she grew too fast, but when the pain didn't stop, we went for a complete examination, for which we very much thank Sloboda zvierat. We wouldn't have had the money for an MRI. These examinations showed that she really had something to hurt. She has a destroyed intervertebral disc, which presses on the nerve root. Another disadvantage is that she has gained a lot of weight. At the time of this examination, she weighed 75 kg. Thanks to a strict diet, she managed to lose to a nice 59 kg in a few months, but we still want to lose at least 4 kg so she can reach 55. We are not yet putting Pandu up for adoption, only if a vet or someone who can provide all the care comes along, since her examinations and check-ups cost a lot of money... Even if she were pain-free, she would definitely not be suitable for guarding a property or a house. She is a real couch potato, loves children and people. If someone finds a sponsor for her medicines and injections that she still needs to receive, we would be very grateful.

My by sme nemali ani na to MR...

About Panda

What life with Panda looks like

Panda is a adult dog waiting at OZ Záchranný koráb in Slovakia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Panda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Panda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. OZ Záchranný koráb handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Panda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Panda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — OZ Záchranný koráb will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Panda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Panda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with OZ Záchranný koráb early rather than rehoming privately; they know Panda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
