Pankratz

Mixed Breed · Male

Grüß Gott. I am Pankratz. Yes, exactly: Pankratz. It sounds like an old man in slacks and house shoes. Once upon a time, I looked like that too – only back then, I was still small and looked like a tomcat who had retired too early. Today, I am a distinguished tomcat. A real big one. One could say: I am like a swallowed bowling ball with fur. I have put on a bit of weight – and the reason is simple: food is my passion. If it were up to me, I would spend the whole day observing people until they finally realize that my bowl does not fill itself. I am a pro at nervously flitting around the room and meowing until the food finally appears. I make such a fuss that one might think I have a megaphone contract. But I am not loud because I am sassy – I am simply very hungry and a bit nervous. Because yes: I am shy. People are still a bit… exciting to me. I need time to build trust. I observe first before I dare to come closer. Once I realize that you are nice, I let myself in – but I decide that entirely on my own and not according to your schedule. Back then, I looked a bit funny because a pancreatitis was diagnosed in me. That changed me, but now I am the Pankratz you see: round, content, and with clear priorities – namely food, rest, and safety. With other cats, I get along perfectly. I am no troublemaker. I am more the type who retreats and observes life. What is important is: I need special food to feel good. A free roam would be perfect for me – ideally secured, so I do not constantly get into the temptation of hunting mice. Although I can also go out normally, if I catch a mouse, it is not so dramatic… just not permanently. After all, I am a connoisseur, not a hunter. If you are looking for a shy but lovable tomcat who looks like a cuddly bowling ball, transforms into a small, joyful chaos at mealtime, and gets along well with other cats – then I am your Pankratz. I am not small. But I am loving. And very hungry. This cat needs outdoor access.

Sehr hungrig.

About Pankratz

What life with Pankratz looks like

Pankratz is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Marktoberdorf in Marktoberdorf.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pankratz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pankratz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Marktoberdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pankratz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pankratz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Marktoberdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pankratz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pankratz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Marktoberdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pankratz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
