Patch

Border Collie · Male · Adult · 5 years

About PatchPatch is a lovely lad who came to the centre via an inspector after he was found living in squalid conditions along with many other dogs. Due to his past being very restricted, it has left him unsure when to adapting to new situations and surroundings. He is a very sweet natured boy who is learning that there is a whole world out there for him to explore, he is beginning to understand that life can be fun and exciting but it all has to be done at his own pace. Patch had never even walked on a collar and lead before coming to the centre so we have been working on that and he is coming on leaps and bounds. He is now beginning to enjoy off site walks and exploring the outside world, he is still learning so adopters will need to understand his needs and help him build his confidence in new situations. He now has a bright future ahead of him and can not wait to be part of a loving family. Patch has a habit of jumping up when he is feeling anxious which his new family will need to help him with. He is nervous around traffic and busy roads which we working on but this will need to continue in a home. After all he has been through, we can not wait to see him in his loving new forever home. Patch is sociable with other dogs but does prefer the girls, he is suitable to live with another female dog and children aged 14 years and over. He will need someone at home most of the time while he settles in. Adopters will need to meet with the centres behaviourist before adoption to help with his transition in to a home.

About Patch

What life with Patch looks like

Patch is a adult border collie dog waiting at RSPCA York Animal Home in York.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Patch, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Patch?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA York Animal Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Patch on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Patch if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA York Animal Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Patch already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Patch isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA York Animal Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Patch and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
