Patch

Dutch Shepherd · Male · Puppy · 6 months

Meet Patch, our bubbly young Dutch Shepherd boy! Patch is a young, energetic lad who is looking for experienced owners who understand Shepherd and Malinois-type breeds and can provide him with the physical and mental stimulation he needs. He is an intelligent boy who will need plenty of guidance, training and structure to help him develop into a well-mannered adult. True to his breed, Patch can be vocal and show frustration when socialising with other dogs. He will therefore need to be the only dog in the home, with his socialisation continuing in neutral spaces. He has also shown some chase behaviours while onsite, so he cannot live with cats. Patch is looking for a quiet home away from the inner city, with access to his own private garden. He can live with dog-savvy teenagers who can be involved in his daily training and ongoing behaviour management. Patch is recovering well from a previous injury to his right hind leg and will need to continue with specific exercise restrictions, as well as outpatient hydrotherapy and physiotherapy in his new home. Patch would be a great match for Shepherd enthusiasts who are ready for a project and committed to helping him channel his energy in the right ways. With the right guidance and consistency, he has the potential to become a loyal and rewarding companion. If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Patch, you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest. ch for the dog in question

About Patch

What life with Patch looks like

Patch is a large puppy/kitten dutch shepherd dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Patch, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Patch?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Patch on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Patch if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Patch already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Patch isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Patch and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
