Paula

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Paula has not found a suitable home yet. She is not currently being advertised and may remain in foster care unless a better option is found. However, the foster care facility has only boring HSH mixes that are not very enthusiastic about the activity and playfulness of a herding dog. Paula's elbow joint is still somewhat restricted, making it difficult to balance adequate exercise and action with too much of either. June 2024 Paula has been in emergency foster care in Dreieich for eight months. She broke her elbow joint in Romania and was allowed to travel to Germany directly after surgery. It is now clear that the joint is hardly restrictive, but the implant has not held perfectly. However, anyone expecting a dog that does not need much exercise is mistaken. Paula runs and jumps through life and has a considerable pulling force. When she walks slowly, she walks a bit unevenly. Paula was abandoned as a puppy with five supposed siblings in a trash can. Her ancestry is unknown. The appearance is a Border Collie mix and the nature is... exactly that. Attentive herding dog looking for active exercise, preferably in water 😉 Her orthopedist believes that less food/weight is good for her - Paula is of a different opinion. Her new home should be accessible by ground level or elevator. Frequent stair descent is not beneficial for her joint. Stair ascent is less of a problem. Paula can now walk down the stairs on her own, but it should not be the rule. A second dog should be similarly playful and possibly set boundaries for her. For children: a herding dog in puberty is probably not the most gentle playmate, so children should be older/larger. In general, Paula still needs training and exercise, even though she currently spends most of her time as an office dog. The walks could last all day if she wanted. Currently, she is mostly on a leash, the recall does not work reliably enough - there is still potential here. Some things are scary (postal bicycle, trash container) and she decides selectively between dog and human. However, she is remarkably relaxed about other things. She can stay alone without problems, is a good passenger in the car, learns in principle quickly and adapts. At home, she is attentive and barks if something strange catches her attention outside. Otherwise, she is just a great dog - and she is pretty anyway. Who would like to give her - after the poor start in life - a beautiful home and spend the best years of her life together? July 2023 Paula and her brother Peter and sisters Piper and Peach were picked up by Agota at the garbage dump nearby. All four are cheerful, small, people-oriented puppies who should explore the world as quickly as possible. Currently, fingers, pant legs, and shoelaces are their favorite toys - anything where they can try out their little teeth.

About Paula

What life with Paula looks like

Paula is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Initiative Karpatenstreuner e.V. in Romania.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Paula, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Paula?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Initiative Karpatenstreuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Paula on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Paula if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Initiative Karpatenstreuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Paula already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Paula isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Initiative Karpatenstreuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Paula and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
