Adopt Pedro & Candy

Unknown · Young · 3 years

Pedro & Candy (male and female, weighing approximately 2.6kg and 2.4kg respectively) were dropped off at our shelter due to private reasons that no longer allow for a proper animal husbandry. Both are very curious and open. They eat from your hand and even let themselves be stroked sometimes. Since Pedro belongs to the breed "Ram," special attention must be paid to his ears, as this breed is at high risk for ear infections. So far, he has not been affected. Candy has a known eye problem (left eye), but she manages well with it. Currently, they are in protected outdoor housing. If you are interested, please contact us via email () and add a few photos of your hutch and the vaccination record of your existing rabbit. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Pedro & Candy

What life with Pedro & Candy looks like

Pedro & Candy is a small young adult rabbit waiting at Tierheim Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

Note from the shelter: Pedro (lop breed) requires special ear care due to increased risk of ear infections. Candy has a known eye problem (left eye) but manages well with it.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pedro & Candy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pedro & Candy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Düsseldorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pedro & Candy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pedro & Candy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Düsseldorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pedro & Candy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pedro & Candy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Düsseldorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pedro & Candy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
