PEDRO

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Pedro is a 4-year-old German Shepherd who has been through hell. He was taken in under dramatic circumstances - his entire life he had only a few meters of space. His environment was mud, dirt, and cold, and the only food he received was bread. These conditions took a toll on his physical and mental health, and Pedro lived in complete neglect for many months. After the intervention, he was taken to a dog hotel where he felt the safety and care for the first time. Today, he is under our care, fully deserving of a second chance that he so badly needs. Pedro has been treated for tick-borne disease, ehrlichiosis. He is neutered. Pedro is a dog who values human contact very much, although he can still be a bit wary at the beginning of an acquaintance. He shows great gratitude and loyalty to those who have not hurt him. However, his experiences with other dogs have not been positive, so at the moment he feels better as the only dog in the house. Other dogs make him feel anxious, and he can feel stressed in their company. We believe that in the right conditions, Pedro can learn to function better in contact with other animals over time, but this requires patience and delicacy. Pedro is not a dog who will immediately become the ideal companion. His new owner must be ready for the challenges that come with living with a dog who has had traumatic experiences. However, with the right care, love, and patience, Pedro can become a devoted, loyal dog who will love his owner with all his heart. Pedro needs a home where he can feel safe and comfortable. A home where he will have space to rediscover the world, without haste and stress. He needs someone who will give him time to learn trust and provide him with proper veterinary care.

Wykazuje ogromną wdzięczność i lojalność w stosunku do tych, którzy go nie skrzywdzili.

About PEDRO

What life with PEDRO looks like

PEDRO is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Stalowowolskie Stowarzyszenie Opieki nad Zwierzętami in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting PEDRO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about PEDRO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stalowowolskie Stowarzyszenie Opieki nad Zwierzętami handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw PEDRO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt PEDRO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stalowowolskie Stowarzyszenie Opieki nad Zwierzętami will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is PEDRO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if PEDRO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stalowowolskie Stowarzyszenie Opieki nad Zwierzętami early rather than rehoming privately; they know PEDRO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
