Pedro - UK

Podenco · Male · Adult · 5 years

Pedro was on of the ‘hole in the ground pups’ found back in summer 2021 along with his siblings and mum. He He was adopted in September 2021 and has been with his family ever since but sadly, due to some unexpected life events, they have come to the difficult decision that Pedro needs a new home and we want to use this opportunity to find the perfect home for him. Pedro has been living as an only dog, but spends a few days a week at doggie day care and absolutely thrives around other dogs and plays beautifully with them, so we are looking for a home for him with at least one other playful dog. He also lives with a 20 month year old toddler and is really good with him so he could be rehomed with children. Pedro is not keen on cats. Pedro is good within the home, likes to laze about and is happy to entertain himself. He isn’t currently left regularly but is on occasion left for up to 3 hours and is quite contented and not destructive. He also travels well in the car. Pedro does have some frustration and anxiety based reactivity on a lead but its not with every dog he meets and we are confident this can be worked on. We can provide ongoing support and advice, utilising our trainer and a behaviourist if necessary. He can also take a while to trust new people, which is a relatively common podenco trait so we’re looking for a home where there aren’t too many regular visitors for him to adjust to. Pedro would really benefit from a home in a semi-rural or rural area where its a little quieter in general and would need a garden that he can enjoy. Pedro is not currently neutered and his current owners had tried chemical castration, but it had a negative impact on his behaviour so they have not repeated that, and we do not advise neutering him until we can feel confident that it won’t negatively impact him. We would be happy to discuss this further but of course it does mean that he cannot be homed with any un spayed females and care would need to be taken to ensure no accidents happen. Pedro is vaccinated, and tested negative for all Mediterranean diseases. He is passported and available for adoption now. If you would prefer to make a one off donation, please click below

About Pedro - UK

What life with Pedro - UK looks like

Pedro - UK is a adult podenco dog waiting at Hope for Podencos in Albacete.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pedro - UK, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pedro - UK?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope for Podencos handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pedro - UK on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pedro - UK if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope for Podencos will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pedro - UK already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pedro - UK isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope for Podencos early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pedro - UK and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
