Penny

Jack Russell Terrier · Female · Senior · 10 years

Penny is a little lady with a big personality! At 10 years young, she still has plenty of classic terrier spirit, but she’s also a big fan of the quieter things in life — gentle adventures, home comforts and a good old-fashioned sunbathe. He loves spending time with her favourite people and is happiest when she can potter around, keep an eye on things and then stretch out somewhere warm for a well-earned snooze. Penny is full of charm and character and would love a home where she can enjoy life at her own pace, soak up plenty of attention and be your loyal little companion. Penny is a 10-year-old Jack Russell Terrier cross looking for a pet-free home where she can be the star of the show! She can live with secondary school-aged children but cannot have visiting dogs or neighbouring dogs sharing a boundary fence. A large, secure private garden would be perfect for Penny, giving her plenty of space to potter about and find her favourite sunny spot. She walks beautifully on lead and prefers quieter routes close to home where she is less likely to meet other dogs. Penny travels well in the car and, once settled, may be able to build up to being left for a few hours gradually.

About Penny

What life with Penny looks like

Penny is a large senior jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Shrewsbury in Telford.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Penny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Penny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Shrewsbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Penny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Penny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Shrewsbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Penny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Penny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Shrewsbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Penny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
