Penny

Lurcher · Female · Young · 1 year

Penny is a very happy, lovely lady with a bouncy, energetic personality. Penny has a wonderful character who is always happy to see you and will come running over to you with her waggy tail and happy smile on her face. Penny is full of joy and appreciates having fuss and company. She loves to go on walks with her fellow doggie friends. During the day, she can be found settling well on her bed, just watching the world go by. She quite likes a comfy duvet to get all cosy into when it's time for bed. Penny would make a fabulous addition to her adopter's life! The lovely Penny would like her new home to give her all the love and attention she desires. She would like an active home that can help keep her stimulated and take her on fun adventures. Penny would like her owners to take her on long, sniffy walks, as she enjoys the outdoors and going on adventures with her favourite people. She would benefit from her leaving hours being built up slowly. Penny can have regular visitors and is suitable to live with secondary-aged children, if they are confident around bouncy dogs. Penny should not live with small furies, cats, or birds. She could live with a well-matched dog who has a similar playstyle, pending how meetings at the centre go.

About Penny

What life with Penny looks like

Penny is a small young adult lurcher dog waiting at Dogs Trust Harefield in Harefield.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Penny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Penny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Harefield handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Penny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Penny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Harefield will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Penny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Penny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Harefield early rather than rehoming privately; they know Penny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
