adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Finally a home for the beautiful Peppa! Her story: Peppa originally came from Bistrita in Romania. She was found as a small puppy by dogcatchers alone and brought to the public shelter there. She grew up in a 2 sqm small kennel as a puppy, with little contact with people. She sat in this small pen day in and day out, receiving little attention or interaction. No one had time for Peppa until a year ago when she finally had the chance to travel to Germany. She arrived with a lot of fear, finding people very scary. Peppa was so afraid of people that she went into defense mode as soon as someone came too close. Leash, collar, and harness found her very creepy, and she had a panic attack at the sight of cars. Peppa was very stressed and overwhelmed by her new situation. Now, Peppa has lived with her trainer for over a year and has developed well. She lives in a mixed pack. Peppa now walks well on a leash and has no problems with car rides. She is very attached to her primary caregiver and follows their lead. She can also run beside a bicycle and knows basic commands. She can settle down anywhere, whether in a café, while camping, or in a hotel. She also gets around in the city when her primary caregiver provides her with a sense of security. She has a den as a retreat and is used to wearing a muzzle. Peppa is conditionally compatible with other dogs. Currently, she discusses when a new fellow animal joins the pack. Once she gets to know this new member better, she accepts him. Peppa shows territorial behavior and is only conditionally compatible on her own property. Being alone still causes her some stress. She still questions a lot, typical pubertal behavior. Currently, she has discovered hunting, which is currently being worked on. Peppa does not like to be touched by strangers and would bite if someone confined or touched her when she did not want it. Strangers are unnecessary to her, but she can handle them if her primary caregiver provides her with a sense of security. Peppa seeks dog-experienced people, needing their security. Her new people should also be confident and stand by their decisions. Peppa needs her people's guidance, so consistent training is very important. She could live in the city or on the countryside. Children from around 14 years old would be possible. Children always mean a lot of visitors and a lot of room for conflicts. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Peppa

What life with Peppa looks like

Peppa is a extra-large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Peppa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Peppa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Peppa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Peppa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Peppa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Peppa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Peppa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
