adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt Pepper! adoption requirements adoption process Pepper was locally rehomed! His story: The beautiful, neutered tomcat named Pepper wishes for his own family in a nice home. He was found alone on the street, so unfortunately, we don't know much about his history. Now he waits in a foster home for his forever home. He has a very friendly and affectionate personality, so it won't be difficult for him to find a suitable family. Since birth, Pepper has had a kind of inflammation in his upper eyelid. As the fur around his eye grew, this area became very irritated. The condition has since been treated. One of his eyes is now slightly smaller than the other, but this has no effect on his vision or health. Additionally, Pepper is FIV positive. This is a viral infection that can lead to a weakened immune system. However, it does not limit his quality of life, and he can still reach a good age. Despite his FIV condition, Pepper can live with a non-infected cat, as transmission only occurs with deep bites and during mating (which is not possible due to his castration). He can also live happily as a single prince and will be even more pleased with enough attention from his favorite people. By the way, the virus is only transmissible to other cats. Humans and other animals cannot contract it. Due to his illness and history, we do not see Pepper as an outdoor cat. However, he is very happy with a secure outdoor space, such as a secured garden/balcony or a secured terrace. The little house cat can now start his journey to his new home and is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. Additionally, he tested negative for FeLV and comes with an EU pet passport.

About Pepper

What life with Pepper looks like

Pepper is a small young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pepper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pepper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pepper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pepper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pepper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pepper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pepper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
