Pepper

Female · Senior · 12 years

Pepper is a 12-year-old rough-haired Fox Terrier who thoroughly enjoys the simple things in life. A leisurely walk where she can sniff to her heart's content, a soft spot to rest and plenty of attention and cuddles make her absolutely happy. Despite her age, she still loves going on short outings and has a particularly gentle and affectionate side. She is very popular with our volunteers and walkers. During walks, we often stop for an extra cuddle moment, something Pepper clearly enjoys. We are looking for a quiet home where Pepper can enjoy her retirement at her own pace. Unfortunately, due to her arrival in the shelter after a death, we have little background information about her past. Therefore, we are looking for a family without young children who will give her the time and space to adjust quietly. A warm home with understanding, peace and cosiness would be the ideal place for Pepper to spend her golden years.

NL·Show original

About Pepper

What life with Pepper looks like

Pepper is a small senior dog waiting at Dierenasiel Gent in Gent.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pepper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pepper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Gent handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pepper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pepper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Gent will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pepper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pepper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Gent early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pepper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
