Get to know Percy directly in more pictures! Percy, the little heartbreaker, is looking for his luck! This little noser was rescued with his siblings Annabeth and Grover from the Romanian street and taken in by the animal shelter. For more information on how dogs end up at the animal shelter and answers to general questions, check our animal welfare FAQ. Percy is just at the beginning of his life and is discovering the world step by step. Like every puppy, he of course still has to learn everything that belongs to a happy puppy life. House training, leash manners, being alone, and the many new impressions of everyday life are still completely new to him. Even at the fence, Percy searches for closeness, licks hands, and playfully nibbles. In direct contact, he lets himself be held and stroked and likes to climb onto laps. He shows typical puppy behavior, plays exuberantly, jumps between people, curiously nibbles at hands or clothing, and likes to engage with his surroundings. During the visit, Percy is much oriented towards people and pays little attention to the other puppies initially. Later, however, he also joins in on a game with his penmate. He can be easily lifted. The little Percy is looking for people who will meet him with patience, love, and understanding and take joy in accompanying him on his journey to adulthood. If you want more information about this little noser, feel free to write to our placement team. Puppies should not have to grow up in the animal shelter. That is why we urgently seek a loving home or an experienced foster home for this little noser – a place where she can discover the world, build trust, and simply be a puppy. Those who adopt a puppy should be aware of how demanding life with a young dog can be: just as soon as house training is accomplished, often comes the "wild puberty" – full of energy, uncertainties, and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that the human and the dog go together – with highs, lows, and a lot of learning moments. We wish for this noser people with patience, empathy, and perseverance – and with the understanding that animal welfare dogs often bring a certain history with them. How exactly they react to life in Germany can never be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: by adopting instead of buying, you are not only giving a second chance to an animal but actively choosing against animal suffering – and for a life with a very special companion by your side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adoption, read through the adoption process first. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas, and neutered (exception: puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to write to our placement team.

Im Tierheim seit: April 2026 Geschätztes Alter: geb. ca. März 2026 Geschätzte Endschulterhöhe: ca. 4 0 – 59 cm Geschätztes Endgewicht: ca. 10 – 35 kg Lerne hier Percy direkt in weiteren Videos kennen!

About Percy

What life with Percy looks like

Percy is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Percy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Percy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Percy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Percy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Percy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Percy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Percy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
