Adopt Perico

Podenco · Male

Perico ID No.: 1039482 Breed: Podenco Andaluz Age: approx. 06/2024 Sex: male Shoulder height: approx. 46 cm Neutered: Yes Location: Marbella (Spain) Inquiry form Perico (*06/2024, approx. 47 cm) is a cheerful Podenco mix with adorable floppy ears. Perico and Philippe were rescued together from the streets by our rescue team. For about three weeks, they survived completely on their own until we finally managed to bring them to safety. Even during that time, both showed their playful and open personalities, although they still wouldn’t allow themselves to be touched. After arriving at the animal shelter, they adapted to their new routine surprisingly quickly. Currently, Perico and Philippe live in a mixed dog group with male dogs and female dogs. Other dogs are absolutely everything to them: they adore contact with fellow animals above all else, are highly social, playful, and open. Therefore, we hope to find each of them a home where at least one confident, adult, and playful dog already lives—one who can provide them with security and accompany them through life. The two brothers can also be rehomed separately—what matters most is that each has a fellow animal present. Toward humans, Perico and Philippe are still somewhat shy, likely due to their difficult start in life. Perico is noticeably more approachable: he needs a moment to build trust, but then cautiously comes closer and thoroughly enjoys cuddles. New environments still make him uneasy, as he is a sensitive male dog, yet with calmness and patience, he will continue to develop well. Both male dogs are very energetic and love running and playing. A securely fenced garden would therefore be a dream come true for them. We are searching for a special home for Perico and Philippe: patient people experienced with insecure dogs, who are willing to work calmly and gradually, give them time, and provide a relaxed, low-stimulus environment where they feel safe. Anyone who meets these special boys with heart, understanding, and patience will be rewarded with two wonderful, affectionate companions. Perico holds an EU pet passport and is, of course, microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, tested for Mediterranean diseases, dewormed, and treated for fleas for travel arrangements. Vaccinations: Yes Mediterranean disease check: Yes Microchip: Yes Known illnesses: None Not suitable as a guard dog No transport included Contact person Ruth Bachhausen Tel: Email:

About Perico

What life with Perico looks like

Perico is a large adult podenco dog waiting at Helfende Hände e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Perico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Perico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Helfende Hände e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Perico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Perico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Helfende Hände e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Perico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Perico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Helfende Hände e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Perico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
