Perla

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Honestly – there are dogs that need only fractions of a second to melt every heart. Perla definitely belongs to this kind, because even though neither her physique nor her color is absolutely exceptional, her fantastic floppy standing ambush ears and her charming look are unique... So take a closer look at Perla's pictures only if you are really seriously looking for a four-legged friend, otherwise this brilliant dog lady will not leave your mind for weeks. The slightly four-year-old Perla was found on the street in January 2021 with six puppies. Probably a hunter abandoned the female dog when he became aware of her pregnancy and realized that the animal would no longer be suitable for work and that some more mouths would have to be fed. As often, we are shocked by the disrespect towards hunting dogs in Spain – and we hope that we can give our protectees a start into an entirely different life, as a partner and real counterpart of a loving person or even a whole family. Perla definitely moved into a great foster home with her little gang, where they first took care that the tender mother could look after her babies, the little ones could grow and learn in peace – and then the little ones already moved into their own families. One fur ball after another found a new home, and Perla stayed with the people who had helped her. Now it was time to explain to the wonderful and extremely clever princess that the world is a beautiful place, that people don't want to do her any harm, and that she has the right to enjoy her life to the fullest. Initially, Perla wasn't really convinced, but now she is a cheerful, attentive and playful bundle of energy, and she shows every day how much she loves and appreciates her rescuers now. For our foster families, this is always the moment when it's time to say goodbye, because there are too many other souls needing a helping hand, those who need to be cared for or overcome trauma, waiting for a temporary home. Perla is ready for her personal start into great happiness. We are looking for a loving and patient family for her, who will give our ear-tiful the time to settle in and make friends at her own pace. Perla has already known house life for several months, she is obviously house trained, she walks politely on a leash, knows car rides and vet visits – but she is still somewhat reserved towards strangers. Patience, love and humor are the keys to happiness for Perla – that's more than modest! And if you can offer all this to our Perla, then just get in touch with us and we'll tell you how the cheerful beauty can win you over soon. Walks well on a leash.

About Perla

What life with Perla looks like

Perla is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Perla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Perla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Perla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Perla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Perla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Perla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Perla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
