Adopt Perlchen

Mixed Breed Cat · Female

Description Our animal rescuers report: Perlchen - a very sensitive, delicate cat. Perlchen fought for survival on the streets. When she was still outdoors, she enjoyed being stroked by our animal rescuer and even allowed herself to be held on a warm arm before being let go again. Perlchen showed herself to be submissive and peaceful in the company of other cats, showing no territorial or dominant behavior. When facing stronger or more dominant fellow animals, she would retreat or leave, avoiding conflicts. Even during meals, she allowed other cats to come to her and share her food. The animal rescuer had to ensure that Perlchen got enough food, which was not always possible. Since Perlchen was brought to a foster home, she has become anxious due to the sudden change in her environment. Currently, she prefers to hide in her transport box and needs patience and time to regain trust, but she never reacts aggressively, always in a reserved manner. When Perlchen is alone, she is playful and active, scattering her toys overnight and leaving blankets scattered around, showing that she relaxes and plays when she feels safe. For such a seemingly gentle cat, she has an unexpectedly loud and expressive meow. The missing front teeth are most likely due to her harsh life on the streets, where she suffered from hunger, cold, and overall poor living conditions before her rescue. Perlchen was extremely thin but has since gained weight in her home life. The ideal home would be quiet, not turbulent, and patient, preferably with another friendly, never dominant cat who would welcome her into the family without reservation. Who would give Perlchen a quiet place and a warm retreat? Please note:

About Perlchen

What life with Perlchen looks like

Perlchen is a adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Perlchen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Perlchen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Perlchen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Perlchen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Perlchen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Perlchen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Perlchen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
