Our Peru playing and cuddling - Video Our Peru is a loving and playful tomcat who immediately approaches people. He meows, runs directly up to them and snuggles in order to get attention. He really enjoys cuddles and is also very enthusiastic when playing. With our Peru, an congenital malformation of a heart valve has been detected. As a result, the right atrium is already significantly enlarged. However, he currently shows no clinical symptoms, which is a very positive finding. It is not possible to make a reliable statement about his life expectancy, as the course can be very different in individual cases. To detect any changes early, regular cardiological check-ups every approximately six months are important. In addition, the owners should observe the breathing rate at rest. An increase can be an early indication of fluid accumulation as part of an initial stage of heart failure and allows for timely therapeutic intervention. The underlying heart defect cannot be treated. However, if Peru develops symptoms in the future, targeted symptomatic treatment can be carried out in order to maintain his quality of life as much as possible. The current heart medication is given preventively in order to reduce the risk of a thrombus (blood clot), which can be favored by the altered flow conditions in the enlarged atrium.

About Peru

What life with Peru looks like

Peru is a young adult european shorthair cat waiting at Kreistierheim Böblingen in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Peru, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Peru?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreistierheim Böblingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Peru on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Peru if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreistierheim Böblingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Peru already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Peru isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreistierheim Böblingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Peru and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
