Adopt Philip

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Philip is a likely 2023-born, neutered Shar Pei mix dog who was found abandoned by the road and found shelter at the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization, Zuflucht. He possesses an extremely nice, open personality and always shows up cheerful. He explores his surroundings with interest, plays around with his dog friends, and won't take long to be convinced to play. He enjoys when he gets attention and cuddles. Long walks would surely make him happy, and as he is a clever pup, learning new things will also be a piece of cake, as long as his little stubbornness doesn't get in the way. Philip would be a wonderful family dog and would certainly be a great addition to families with older children. He gets along wonderfully with female dog, but with other dogs, it depends on the sympathy. Therefore, we recommend him as a second dog to a dog lady, although it should be noted that during his time on the streets, Levin defends his food, so the bowls need to be far enough apart when feeding. Whether he knows cats and how he reacts to them is unknown. He wishes for loving and active people who will patiently and consistently train him, have sufficient free time, and do not live in the city center. Experience in dog care should already be present. The dog stands at a shoulder height of 50 cm and weighs approximately 18 – 20 kg.

Read original (hu)

About Philip

What life with Philip looks like

Philip is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Philip, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Philip?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Philip on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Philip if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Philip already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Philip isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Philip and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
