Phino

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Phino New Family Needed Phino (08.04.2022) is a private surrender, as his current family, due to an unforeseen change in their personal situation, can unfortunately no longer give Phino the time, attention, and fostering he deserves, while they wish to do so for their heart-warmingly good dog Phino. Here is the dossier we received from his family for Phino: ● Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer mixed breed – 20-21KG, shoulder height: 55cm, unneutered ● Age: approx. 3 years ● Personality: Absolutely charming, very cuddly, and people-oriented. He wants to please („Will to please“) and learns extremely quickly. ● Training level: He is house-trained, walks very well on a leash, and masters the basic commands. ● Obedience & Recall: Phino is trained to respond to the clicker. His recall with the clicker works already very well. For safety, we still have him on a lead, as he has a strong prey drive. ● Talents: We have started with scent training (nose work), in which he shows a tremendous talent. He is also ideal for Canicross or Mantrailing – we often go running with him and he has a lot of fun. ● Social Behavior: He is generally compatible with other dogs (sometimes a bit stormy at the beginning). ● Special: Due to his strong bond, Phino needs clear structures and is still working on being alone (currently he can be calm for about 5-10 minutes, and it is getting better). We had a recent resource guarding incident (no bite) – we are convinced that we must attribute this to our mistakes and would like to discuss the details very much. History: (follows xx) We will place Phino after a positive pre-visit with first contact by email and providing a telephone number. or Data: Name: Phino Age: 08.04.2022 Gender: male dog (not neutered) Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer mixed breed shoulder height: 55cm / 20-22kg Color: sable vaccinated against: DHPPi/L4R Traits: absolutely charming, very cuddly, and people-oriented, "Will to please", clever/lernwillig, compatible with xx For more information, please contact us under Video:

Er möchte gefallen („Will to please“) und lernt extrem schnell.

About Phino

What life with Phino looks like

Phino is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Starnberg in Starnberg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Phino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Phino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Starnberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Phino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Phino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Starnberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Phino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Phino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Starnberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Phino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
