PICCOLO

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Piccolo, a special needs kitten, is up for adoption. Our Piccolo is looking for a home. Scroll for English. When we first saw him, we could have said how unlucky he was from the moment he was born. We could have talked about the illnesses he had to deal with and the struggle he faced from the moment he came into the world. We could have been afraid, felt sorry for him, cried for him. He struggled, had surgeries, wasn't healthy like the other kittens. We saw the difficult and bad things. But he... He ran like a whirlwind from the very first moment with his two legs and didn't even realize that the other two didn't help him. He played. He asked for affection. He made friends. He had loved ones. He slept in our arms and had beautiful dreams. He was and is calm and happy. And so we are with him. We don't get angry, feel sorry. We don't see the difficult things. Because he taught us not to see them. He taught us not to feel sorry, he taught us to enjoy life with him. To live his days like he does: carefree and present in everything. Piccolo is a great teacher. And how strange his name seems when he is actually so big and important. A great teacher like most animals with special needs. Next to them, we become better people. Next to them, we grow too. The sweet Piccolo, for those who don't remember, was found dragging his body when he was just a few weeks old. It was found that he had a spina bifida, a rare genetic disorder that also exists in humans, in which the vertebrae do not converge and remain open. Then a nodule was created at the point, which was removed and fortunately has not appeared again since then. He has been operated on, but unfortunately there is no improvement in walking and there will be no improvement. About PICCOLO

What life with PICCOLO looks like

PICCOLO is an adult mixed breed cat waiting at Cat Rescue Athens in Greece.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting PICCOLO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about PICCOLO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Cat Rescue Athens handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw PICCOLO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt PICCOLO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Cat Rescue Athens will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is PICCOLO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if PICCOLO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Cat Rescue Athens early rather than rehoming privately; they know PICCOLO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
