Pico

adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! Pico has found a home! His story: What kind of magnificent fellow has our Pico grown into? Pico is a true peak climber despite his past as an operation participant! He has temperament and wants to reach great heights. And finally, he lives! The imposing Pico has a huge heart. He loves all people and is overjoyed when he – which unfortunately happens far too rarely – is taken out of his pen and gets to spend some quality time with the Romanian animal protectors on site. In these moments, his character shines: a strong-willed chatterbox with lots of energy and a whole lot of love. He would kiss the whole day away. And honestly: Pico has the sweetest ears in the entire shelter. They wiggle curiously when he discovers something new, and make him a real heartthrob. Despite being abandoned by people as a little puppy, he was pitifully left behind. He was hit by a car and lay injured for two days in front of a house – no one helped him. Fortunately, he was found in time by animal protectors, operated on, and lovingly cared for. Pico had a fracture in his hind leg, received a fixation in his leg, and is now recovering wonderfully. He is back to being fully fit, mobile, and ready for an active life full of adventures. Pico suffers greatly in the shelter. He is physically overtaxed, mentally understimulated, and emotionally despondent. For a lively young greyhound, these conditions are extremely stressful. Therefore, Pico is considered a crisis case, and it is urgently hoped that he will soon have a chance at a better life. The great guy is currently going through puberty, which sometimes makes him a bit challenging but also particularly exciting. This phase will pass 100 percent. Those who master it together with him in harmony can count themselves among the nerve-wracking, teenager-tested dog heroes! After the adjustment period, it is recommended to attend dog training classes that work with positive reinforcement to give him the best possible start to a rosy future. Learning the dog ABCs and setting loving boundaries is much better with professional guidance. Additionally, the joint training strengthens the bond between human and dog. Especially important is the contact with fellow animals, because free, joyful play and the measuring of strength are very much missing for Pico in the pen. An active, empathetic person with a lot of heart who recognizes Pico's big heart and doesn't mind his occasional pubertal behavior is sought. Just as important are calmness, time to settle in, and a trusting interaction. A foster home would also be a huge help for him. Pico is ready for the start of a new chapter. Many thanks, Carolin! You have given Pico his name! Date: 15.02. This animal is vaccinated.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Vielen Dank, Carolin! Du hast Pico seinen Namen geschenkt! Stand: 15.02.2026

About Pico

What life with Pico looks like

Pico is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pico, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pico?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pico on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pico if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pico already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pico isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pico and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
