Picolino

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Our Picolino is an approximately 1.5-year-old, neutered male dog with a shoulder height of about 55–60 cm. He came to his family in Bavaria at around 4 months old and currently lives with another dog. Unfortunately, his people now have to search for a new home for him with heavy hearts. Picolino is in the middle of puberty, a phase where young dogs question a lot, test boundaries, and sometimes react emotionally faster than usual. Due to this, conflicts have been increasing between him and the existing only dog, to the point where the only dog no longer feels safe in its own home and has unfortunately already been injured. For both dogs and the family, the situation has become a permanent stress, so a spatial separation is the most responsible way forward. Despite this, Picolino has many wonderful qualities. When he builds trust and feels secure, he shows himself to be a cheerful, curious, and very eager-to-learn companion. He is very cuddly, builds a close bond with his people, and with his charming, sometimes a bit playful nature, always brings a smile to their faces. He masters the basic commands reliably and has even learned some small tricks. He particularly enjoys search games and mental exercises. Carrots are among his absolute favorite treats. He can be left alone for a few hours, ideally with some mental stimulation to keep him from getting bored. Outdoors, Picolino is attentive and closely observes his surroundings. He likes to work with his people and is a sporty dog who enjoys movement and mental stimulation in nature, such as running or balancing on tree trunks. He is well-attuned to his primary caregiver and knows to stay by the roadside until he receives the release signal. He also masters car rides without issues and can handle trips of up to an hour. However, Picolino also brings some challenges. In new or unfamiliar situations, he initially reacts uncertainly and suspiciously. If something overloads him, he may go forward. With calmness, patience, and clear guidance, he can be addressed and guided through such situations. Loud noises unsettle him, especially fireworks scare him. In contact with other dogs, Picolino shows himself to be very confident and sometimes dominant. He often observes encounters with other dogs, bicycles, or passersby skeptically but can be redirected with calmness and treats. Due to the tense situation with the only dog, precautionary muzzle training has been set up. Picolino can be comfortably fitted with a muzzle and wears it calmly. For Picolino, we are looking for a home as a single prince with dog-experienced, active people without children. A quiet environment, preferably with a garden and a rural setting, would be ideal for him. What is most important to us is that his future people understand that Picolino is still in the middle of his developmental phase. Puberty can be a turbulent time for dogs, just like for us humans. During this phase, they need extra patience, clear orientation, and people who give them security. Many of his current behaviors are typical of young dogs in puberty and can be further developed and steered into positive directions with patience, training, and clear guidance. Once Picolino has built trust, he shows himself to be a loyal and faithful soul who bonds closely with his people. Picolino is microchipped, neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. Of course, he also has his EU passport and is allowed to travel after a positive health check. Could Picolino fit with you?

Stand: 17.07.2026

About Picolino

What life with Picolino looks like

Picolino is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Picolino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Picolino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Picolino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Picolino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Picolino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Picolino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Picolino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
