adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Piet has found his new home! His story: Toller Familienhund is already waiting in Germany for his new family. Piet is about 1 year old, weighs around 30 kg with a shoulder height of about 65 cm. He gets along very well with children. Cats find him quite interesting. He would like to play with them, but he still needs to understand that they often don't like it. With a second dog in the family, he wouldn't have any problems and would probably love it, as he likes to be with other dogs. Piet is a super friendly dog and masters the basic commands. As long as no other dogs come, he is also good to recall without a leash. Playing on the dog field with other dogs, he finds it great, he runs and plays for his life. Piet has no problems with car rides. He knows how to ride in the back seat but also the trunk is fine for him. He loves water and mud puddles. He plays football very much and fetching also makes him happy. He is used to being alone for up to 4 hours at a time, for which he has his dog box as a resting place, where he also likes to sleep sometimes. Otherwise, he likes to lie with his family on the bed or on the sofa and cuddles for his life. When it comes to food, he is a bit tricky. He doesn't tolerate food with grain and needs variety between dry and wet food. Piet is absolutely relaxed in the apartment. Whether someone rings the doorbell, knocks, other dogs bark, or children scream, he never barks. He notices sounds in the hallway or outside, listens interestedly, but remains quiet. He is no barker. Neighbors would not notice that a dog is present. He meets strangers very open-minded and is happy to see everyone. With other dogs, he has no problems. He wants to play with everyone, whether big or small. He is a friendly dog and loves his people, constantly seeking the closeness of one, wanting to cuddle, play, or simply feel that someone is there. Piet needs more training when it comes to dog encounters on the leash, as he is simply too stormy and rambunctious. Piet is not neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and brings his EU pet passport. He can be visited after a positive Piet can be visited. Thank you Kate! You have given Piet his name! Date: 26.06. This animal is good with children.

Vielen Dank Kate! Du hast Piet seinen Namen geschenkt! Stand: 26.06.2025

About Piet

What life with Piet looks like

Piet is a extra-large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Piet, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Piet?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Piet on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Piet if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Piet already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Piet isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Piet and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
