Pili

Podenco · Female · Puppy · 3 months

I am Pili and this is my story. My sister Mili and I appeared in a river, clinging to some branches as best we could, trying not to let ourselves be carried away by the current. We don't know how we got there or if there were more puppies with us... We only know that we were very lucky: a family heard us, found us and saved us. Now I am safe, but I still have to find the most important thing: my forever family. I am a podenco puppy, so get ready because I bring joy, curiosity and a desire to discover the world. Podencos are intelligent, active, sensitive and very affectionate dogs when they trust you. I love to play, investigate every corner and enjoy everything that life is teaching me now that I am safe. As an adult, I will be medium-sized, approximately between 20 and 25 kg, so I will grow with you, learning, playing and filling your home with unforgettable moments. My beginning was not pretty, but I want my story to have a happy ending. I don't want anyone to pass by me again. I want a family that loves me, takes care of me, has patience with me and teaches me everything that means having a home. I am looking for a responsible home for a lifetime. Because after having struggled so much to get ahead, the only thing I want now is something very simple: to have a place to call home.

About Pili

What life with Pili looks like

Pili is a medium-sized puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at Animales Rioja in Spain.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pili, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pili?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animales Rioja handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pili on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pili if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animales Rioja will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pili already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pili isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animales Rioja early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pili and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
