Pina

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 5 months

Pina and Ivie currently live at our shelter, where the two beautiful sisters are waiting to find a loving family. Their journey began in December 2023 when animal welfare workers, who are friends, were informed that some dogs near a village were struggling to survive. With winter already challenging enough for adult dogs, it was an even greater challenge for puppies just a few weeks old. The puppies were therefore secured, and three little girls moved to the caretakers of our shelter, initially as foster dogs in the leadership team's home. At first, the little ones were distressed, and they were not in top physical condition. A giardia infection had to be fought, and then it was about turning the underweight babies into well-nourished young ladies. The pictures speak for themselves – the endeavor has been a complete success. Pina and Ivie have recently moved into the animal shelter, where they are making new four-legged friends with lots of fun. They play exuberantly and have quickly learned to move around in the large pack and correctly interpret signals from older dogs. The graces are a bit more reserved with people but show increasing interest in cuddles and group tours of their current home, from A (as in the drainpipe) to Z (as in the fence post). Ivie and Pina are just 5 months old (as of February 2024) and sweet little girls. Of course, their big, round eyes make all hearts beat faster, and of course, every animal lover wishes to help these wonderful little backfish. However, despite all enthusiasm, one should not forget that Ivie and Pina already have a story to tell despite their young age. Our princesses are truly on the path to becoming fantastic companions for loving people, but they need more time than other puppies of their age. Patience, time, love, and even more patience are essential to give Pina or Ivie a good start in life as a family dog. Children living in the house should understand that the new best friend is not ready to play in the garden, be petted, or cheerfully go for a walk from the start. Our girls need retreat options, targeted guidance, and experienced people who can give them their (already present) trust to explore and conquer the world with them. If you are ready to give one of the sisters a secure future, know how to show a fearful dog that you are capable of taking responsibility, providing security, and have enough time to show your little offspring what a real home means, then we are thrilled to hear from you!

About Pina

What life with Pina looks like

Pina is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
