Pinot

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 6 years

I am urgently seeking a new home for my dog Pinot. He is 6 years old, came to Germany from Mexico at 7 months old. Unfortunately, he was attacked by the family's first dog, which led to his removal from the family. I had hoped friends would take him, but they canceled. I took him in pity, he was about 1.5 years old when he came to me. Pinot barks at the leash, especially during dog encounters, he does not let anyone into the house and sometimes snaps at my husband. Pinot is very reactive and defends resources. I have fallen several times, twice I broke bones and had to be operated on. I have 9 broken vertebrae due to osteoporosis, I cope well with it now, but when Pinot jumps on the leash, I can't handle it. I have tried 10 dog trainers and don't want to try anymore. I have worked on myself, conducted several animal communications. I have had Pinot medically checked, have a nutritionist for him and am completely exhausted. Without a leash, Pinot is well-behaved with most dogs. In the meantime, my husband and I are also taking care of my 90-year-old demented mother-in-law. Pinot is 55 cm tall, weighs about 23 kg, he loves search and tug games, carrots and cucumbers, he hates cats. I can no longer provide Pinot with the life he deserves. I am sure that someone who can offer him security can help him relax. A fenced garden and possibly a confident first female dog would be a dream. Contact:

So musste Pinot dort weg. Kontakt:

About Pinot

What life with Pinot looks like

Pinot is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Eifeltierheim Altrich in Altrich.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pinot, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pinot?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Eifeltierheim Altrich handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pinot on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pinot if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Eifeltierheim Altrich will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pinot already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pinot isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Eifeltierheim Altrich early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pinot and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
