Pionek

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Pionek, a dog born in 2020. Pionek is a poor, frightened dog. When he arrived at our shelter, he was trembling with fear and avoided contact with people. We don't know what he experienced before, but it was certainly not pleasant. He was also incredibly thin and neglected. He immediately started getting two meals a day and now at least his ribs are no longer visible. His current weight indicates 15 kilograms. He should physically recover fairly quickly, but it might take a bit longer to overcome his fear. He can now be petted without sudden movements and can even go for a walk on a leash. However, Pionek panics when someone tries to pick him up. It's clear that he's afraid something might happen to him and wants to escape by running away. We need to gradually overcome this fear to avoid problems during handling, such as during medical procedures. He definitely needs time and frequent contact with people. We've noticed that Pionek doesn't get into conflicts with other dogs, and he behaves very politely on the play area, just as he does in his kennel. He doesn't bark, destroy anything, or seek attention. He now needs a calm, caring home with a owner who will dedicate a lot of time to him, take care of him, and show him that he doesn't need to be afraid of people and that he is completely safe. Pionek is a truly un-demanding, submissive dog that deserves a better life and a second chance from fate. Who will adopt this poor soul? Pionek is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

PL·Show original

Pionek, pies urodzony w 2020r. Pionek to biedny, wystraszony psiak.

About Pionek

What life with Pionek looks like

Pionek is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pionek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pionek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pionek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pionek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pionek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pionek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pionek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
