Adopt Piorun

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Piorun – help him regain faith in humanity Piorun is a dog with a difficult past. Unfortunately, he was raised in a way that had nothing to do with care and respect – he was subjected to inhumane methods, which undoubtedly had a great impact on him. These painful experiences left a mark on his trust in people… Although Piorun still needs time, patience, and work to overcome the traumas he has gone through, every day brings him closer to a better life. It is important that he is currently in our animal shelter, where he is surrounded by caring care and a sense of security. Every day, we help him understand that not everyone wants to harm him. Piorun has already made significant progress and begins to trust those who care for him. Although he still requires patience, his openness to relationships with caregivers and desire to make contact are becoming more evident. His demeanor is becoming more positive each day, and his fear of people is slowly subsiding. Piorun feels best in a quiet, peaceful environment, so a home without children, with a garden, would be preferred, where he can fully feel safe and comfortable. Under the right conditions, he will surely develop his trust in people and become a wonderful companion for many years. However, this process requires patience and commitment from his future caregiver. This animal is not suitable for homes with children.

Choć Piorun nadal potrzebuje czasu, cierpliwości i pracy, by przezwyciężyć traumy, które przeszedł, to każdy dzień przybliża go do lepszego życia.

About Piorun

What life with Piorun looks like

Piorun is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Oaza dla Zwierząt Mielec in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Piorun, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Piorun?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Oaza dla Zwierząt Mielec handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Piorun on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Piorun if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Oaza dla Zwierząt Mielec will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Piorun already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Piorun isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Oaza dla Zwierząt Mielec early rather than rehoming privately; they know Piorun and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
