Adopt Pipa

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Characteristics: Vaccinated, dewormed, and spayed. I am Pipa, Pipinha to my friends. I am a little puppy who had some bad luck. I broke a leg but my owner didn't treat it, so I ended up with a "mirrored" leg and walked with it curled up in pain, sometimes dragging it and causing a wound on my foot... My owner passed away, and some neighbors would feed me. I spent some time alone, which wasn't good for me. Then a neighbor contacted the animal rescue association Bianca. When I arrived at Bianca, they did an X-ray, and the best solution for my well-being was to amputate the leg, as I was dragging it and causing wounds, plus I was in pain. Now I'm here at our shelter, since February 2025, waiting for a family that will look at me and want to adopt me. Will someone want me like this? I think no one wants me, so I won't get my hopes up...

O meu tutor morreu, e uns vizinhos alimentavam-me.

About Pipa

What life with Pipa looks like

Pipa is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Bianca APS in Portugal.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Amputated leg due to previous injury and pain

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pipa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pipa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Bianca APS handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pipa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pipa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Bianca APS will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pipa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pipa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Bianca APS early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pipa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
