Adopt Piper

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Piper 2280106 Born approximately November 2021 Shoulder height approximately 64 cm male, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed At the shelter since 29.11.2023 Location: Animal Shelter Prijatelji/Croatia The transportation of the dog is organized by us Piper: deserves a second chance Piper almost found his happiness - he was already reserved, but in the last moment the decision was revoked. Now this big, strong young man is back at the shelter and no longer understands the world. Piper comes from a Roma village and has a lot of energy. He is playful and loves to really let off steam. Sometimes it can be a bit rough, which is why he needs experienced people who know how to handle a powerful, active dog. On a leash, Piper is already very good, and he gets along well with female dogs. What he lacks, however, is a stable home where he can finally relax and receive all the love he deserves so much. Piper urgently needs a family that shows him he won't be disappointed again. Who will give Piper a second chance? ❤️ When this dog arrives at your home, please give him time to get used to everything calmly. Much will still be new for him. Therefore, he wants to learn the basics of being a dog together with your help and patience, like climbing stairs, doing his business outside or walking on a leash. A good dog school (which also welcomes shelter dogs) can help you. Joint training also strengthens your bond and trust in each other. We only know the dogs from the shelter and usually don't know if they are compatible with cats or other animals. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee that. Therefore, a meeting should take place very carefully. We will support you from the beginning. We are there for you before and after the adoption, gladly answer your questions and of course send you all important documents and information about the dog. Here you can find out more about the adoption process: The listed characteristics serve as orientation and are based on the assessment of the dogs in the shelter. In a new, unknown environment, a dog's behavior can differ. Also, the breed specification is usually only an initial assessment, especially based on appearance, and gives only limited information about the animal's character. Further information you will get in a conversation with our mediators. About Piper

What life with Piper looks like

Piper is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Step by Paw e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Piper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Piper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Step by Paw e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Piper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Piper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Step by Paw e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Piper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Piper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Step by Paw e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Piper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
