Adopt Pippa

Female · Young · 1 year

Pippa is a young female dog, a mixed breed between a Labrador Retriever and a Dogue de Bordeaux, who was surrendered to us because taking care of multiple dogs became too burdensome. We are looking for a home where people have the time and patience to work with her. This combination of breeds results in a dog with a nice mix of traits. From the Labrador she has her sensitivity and eagerness to learn, while the Bordeaux dog gives her a gentle, affectionate nature and a strong bond with her people. Pippa is an earlier more fearful girl who needs rest, stability and trust. She needs more time to get to know new situations and people. Once she feels safe, you will see her slowly blossom, but this happens entirely at her own pace. She hasn't learned much in her young life, so many things are still new to her. Walking, outside stimuli, structure... these are all things that need to be built up slowly. Fortunately, Pippa is curious and willing to explore, provided she gets the right guidance. For Pippa we are looking for a quiet and patient home, with people who give her the time to grow and gradually build her confidence. Someone who understands that she needs a bit more time, but who wants to guide her towards a stable and happy life. Are you the soft and understanding person for Pippa? Then definitely contact us or fill out the questionnaire via our website.

About Pippa

What life with Pippa looks like

Pippa is a large young adult dog waiting at Dierenbescherming Mechelen in Mechelen.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pippa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pippa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenbescherming Mechelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pippa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pippa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenbescherming Mechelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pippa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pippa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenbescherming Mechelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pippa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
